In an exclusive interview, the rapper and presenter of ‘Caresha Please’ discusses her relationship with the entrepreneur and the allegations that have been cast upon him.
Yung Miami is being forthright about her experience dating Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Caresha Romeka Brownlee, a rapper and former member of City Girls, will be returning to her popular podcast, Caresha Please, on Revolt TV this week. She will be discussing her experiences over the past few months in the context of Diddy’s numerous legal issues and controversies. Prior to the Season 2 premiere, she disclosed these details.
“It’s not easy,” she says about finally breaking her silence. “It’s a rollercoaster of emotions.”
Yung Miami was in a relationship with the defamed rapper-mogul and former chairman of Revolt, 54, prior to the publication of surveillance footage on May 19, 2016, which depicted him physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Cassie. He has been the subject of numerous civil lawsuits in recent months, and his residence was searched in March as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation.
According to the rapper, she was “deeply hurt and shocked” after viewing the video of her ex and Cassie, following the revelation of his barrage of legal issues last November. She and Diddy parted ways amicably. “That was not my experience at all,” she asserts.
Combs acknowledged his “disgust” at his actions toward Cassie in a post to his social media account that has since been deleted. He stated, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you have to do that.”
He added, “I was f—ed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable…I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”
Yung Miami says that she has also been subjected to violence by a romantic companion in the past.
“I’ve been in a toxic relationship before when I was younger,” she says. “In high school, my early 20s, and they’re not healthy. They’re not fun. It’s just I’ve been there, done that, and that’s somewhere I would never want to put myself.”
She continues, “Now, being 30 with two kids, that’s something I don’t condone or tolerate, something that I grew from. That’s why I say that wasn’t my experience with him, because I wouldn’t even put up with that [again].” She adds that she wants to be a good example “of a mother and a woman for my daughter.”
In terms of attraction, “I just think that when I met Diddy he was just a man first. He was more into what I wanted to do, and he approached me with a lot of business [ideas]. ‘You should do this. I see this in you.’ So it was more of that for me. He saw more in me than music.”
Caresha Please was one such endeavor that Diddy supported and secured a home for at Revolt TV, the company he founded and served as chairman at the time. [Combs resigned as chairman and has severed his affiliation with the media organization in response to recent allegations and legal complications.]
The two made their romance public on the first episode of the program, as Yung Miami interviewed her then-boyfriend and confirmed the allegations that they “go together.”
Back then, “it was just laughs, giggles and personality,” she recalls. That all changed amid the news of numerous allegations against him, but as for what specifically caused their split, she says “sometimes a relationship runs its course. People breakup every day, and with everything that happened, I just needed time alone.”
Recent months have given her time to think on her conduct. Yung Miami insulted and slurred Gina Huynh, who has also accused Diddy of abuse, on social media when she spoke out about their relationship. Her decision is regrettable.
“I’m aware of the things I tweeted towards another woman that, now looking back, I know I shouldn’t have given any energy to,” she says. “Everyone only saw how I responded when I was repeatedly tested. I’m working to make sure I don’t let people take me out of my character, no matter how hard it might be.”
She adds, “I don’t ever want to disrespect an entire group of people because one person is pushing to get a reaction out of me. It’s not right, but I am a work in progress and constantly doing the work to become a better version of Caresha.”
It’s work she hopes fans will see in the new season of her show.
“This whole thing has broken me and impacted me in such a way, and it was kind of a dark time for me,” she says. “So I just want to stay positive and focus on myself and what’s important to me right now. I always tell myself, ‘stay strong, stay consistent. You are beautiful. You are worthy.’ In life you always face challenges. But when you fall like it, you pick up, you ride again.”
Season 2 of Caresha Please debuted on Revolt’s app and YouTube channel at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, August 8.
