Chalino Sanchez was a regional Mexican singer who is most known for popularising the narcocorrido genre. He was born Rosalino Sanchez in Mexico City. Although Chalino passed away in 1992, his music continues to be streamed by millions of Latino fans every year. In the aftermath of a sequence of terrible occurrences, an unemployed Chalino embarked on a music career in an attempt to make ends meet.
He used to record music on cassettes and sell it out of the trunk of his car. A Mexican immigrant named Pedro Rivera took an interest in Chalino’s music, and he granted him access to a modest recording studio. Rivera and Chalino were pioneers of narcocorridos, a form of corrido that extols the virtues of the drug trade and the violent crimes that go hand in hand with it.
Chalino Sanchez’s Early Life
Rosalino Sánchez Félix was born in “Las Flechas,” a modest ranch in the state of Sinaloa, where he grew up. He grew up as the youngest of seven siblings. Son of Santos Sanchez (?–1964) and Senorina Felix (?–1991), he was raised by his parents. Chalino was born into a poor family and had a rough upbringing. His sister, Juana, described him as an inquisitive and naughty boy who had a strong desire to pursue a career as a singer. His given name is Rosalino, although he went by the moniker Chalino when he was born to it.
“Chapo” Perez, a wealthy and violent man, sexually assaulted his sister when he was 15 years old in 1975. Two years later, in 1977, a 17-year-old Chalino was at a party when he reportedly saw the guy and shot him in retaliation, resulting in his death. Sanchez fled to Tijuana with his revolver and a Jess Malverde necklace after perpetrating this act of violence. Over his stay in Tijuana, he worked as a “coyote,” or immigration smuggler, transporting illegal immigrants into the country.

Chalino himself entered the United States as an undocumented migrant worker in the same year as the aforementioned incident. Starting in Oregon, he eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where he now resides with his aunt in Inglewood, California. He cleaned dishes, sold automobiles, and, according to his acquaintances, traded in tiny amounts of marijuana and cocaine, amongst other things. He also assisted his older brother, Armando, in the running of an immigration smuggling ring.
Murder at Chalino Sanchez’s Show!
His performance at Los Arcos nightclub in Coachella, California, on January 25, 1992, was a career highlight. During Chalino’s performance, Eduardo Gallegos, 34, a local jobless mechanic from Thermal, California, went up on stage and began shooting a small.25 calibre handgun at him while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Chalino drew a 10 mm handgun from his belt and launched into a running gun duel with Gallegos, who was following after him.
There were around 400 individuals in attendance, with seven to 10 people apparently being struck throughout the altercation. Chalino and Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Hernandez, the group’s accordionist, were among those present. Claudio Rene Carranza, a 20-year-old resident of the area, was killed. Gallegos was murdered with his own pistol after being pulled to the ground by a spectator. Chalino was in serious condition when he was sent to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs for surgery.

In addition to ABC World News Tonight, the shooting was covered by both English and Spanish-language publications. Chalino saw success with his sales and began receiving radio playing, although for a single, old-fashioned, non-narco tune called “Nieves de Enero,” which was released in January. Doors for his upcoming Los Angeles performance at El Parral had to close at 6 p.m., 5–6 hours before he was scheduled to take the stage.
Chalino Smashed the Note
A performance by Chalino at the Salon Bugambilias in Culiacán took place on May 15, 1992, four months after the Coachella tragedy. A message was presented to Chalino by a member of the audience just as he was about to begin singing another song.
The note informed Chalino that they would murder him if he didn’t stop performing immediately. Chalino smashed the note against the wall and resumed singing. After midnight, Chalino and a group of young ladies drove away from the club, which included two of his brothers, a cousin, and a few other friends.

A gang of armed guys in black Chevrolet Suburbans approached them and ordered them to pull over. They presented Chalino with their state police identification cards and informed him that their commander wanted to meet with him. Following their agreement, Chalino jumped into one of their automobiles, with everyone following behind. [a citation is required]
What Caused Chalino Sanchez’s Death?
Chalino performed in the Salon Bugambilias in Culiacán, Mexico, some four months after the critical Coachella filming had a place. His two siblings, a cousin, and numerous young women accompanied him out of the club on May 16, 1992, following a highly successful performance that night. Men in Chevrolet Suburbans, armed with what seemed to be state police identity cards, stopped the group and kidnapped one of the brothers.
After persuading Chalino that the commandant wanted to speak with him, the guys persuaded the singer to accompany them in their vehicle, while the other cars trailed behind. His corpse was discovered along an irrigation canal in the area of Los Laureles, Culiacan, a few hours after he was reported missing.
