Pacino’s character named Satan takes the guise of a human lawyer named after the author of Paradise Lost, John Milton. The plotline and the direction contain allusions to Milton’s epic, Dante Alighieri’s Inferno and the legend of Faust.
Cast of The Devil’s Advocate received mixed reviews as critics praised it for entertainment value along with performance of Pacino. The movie has grossed around $153 million at the box office and also won the Saturn Award for the best horror movie.
