Camila Cabello has over 12 years of experience in the industry, so she doesn’t need other people’s validation to realize her value.

In an interview for a cover story that appeared on Wednesday, May 29, Cabello discussed her thoughts leading up to the release of her most recent album, C,XOXO, and explained why she isn’t setting any expectations.

The 27-year-old Cabello told the publication, “Many things can happen, and they are out of my control.”

The “Bam Bam” singer revealed that it took her years to adopt this strategy and that she used to get upset when people didn’t appreciate her or her songs.

“I wish I had known [when I first started out] that not everyone would like me, and it’s not my fault,” the woman remarked. “That initially had a big impact on me. When you’re that young, all you want is love and approval, and you find it incomprehensible when others dislike you.”

Cabello went on: “You take it so personally, and it makes you feel like you’re doing something wrong.”

Gradually, she discovered that “people’s reactions have nothing to do with you” and that she didn’t need to be “affected by.”

“I’m way more at peace with it today,” she stated.

The singer of “Never Be the Same” talked about living her “Sex and the City life, but Miami” in other parts of the conversation, which she used as inspiration for her upcoming album.

“It’s about being a little more fearless and rebellious, and going out and attending more parties,” Cabello stated. “In the past, I would walk out without giving my appearance a second thought. I used to feel alright if I felt a little unattractive, but these days, I always want to feel good about myself.”

“It’s about really enjoying life, and I always think to myself, that’s what sensuality is all about,” she said. “Enjoying food, trying on different clothes in front of the mirror, and savoring the senses of life are all sensory experiences. It’s about absorbing that energy of the terrible guy.”

On June 28, Cabello’s upcoming album C,XOXO will be released, featuring collaborations with Drake, Lil Nas X, City Girls, and more artists.
