Following his debut in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa went on to headline his own solo film. Black Panther release was met with widespread critical acclaim and was nominate for several Academy Awards, winning three. Now that’s not to say that the awards are the only metric for judging a film’s worth. And while I do have some issues with the movie, it is hard to argue that the movie wasn’t a success.
But now T’Challa is back from the dead following the game-changing events of Avengers: Endgame. Fans are understandably looking forward to what’s in store for him and Wakanda. Despite not having been announced at Comic-Con as part of the Phase Four slate, it was confirmed a month later at D23.
Ryan Coogler is all set to return as director and naturally the entire main cast from the first film is returning. And with the latest updates from Disney on the movie rolling in, it’s going to be a while before we return to Wakanda.
Black Panther Versus Namor?
The current Phase Four slate has been delay as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Black Widow’s May release has been push to fall and the domino effect has impact the entire slate. Though fans will be happy to learn that Black Panther 2 original release date of May 6, 2022, has only been pushed two days. That’s right, folks! Black Panther 2 will be releasing on May 8, 2022.
There’s not much to go on whether the Black Panther officially constitutes a part of Phase Four. But it really wouldn’t be all that surprising given the fact that Guardians 3 is also not a part of the slate. It’s very likely that the movie will officially be part of the Phase Five Slate.
Personally, I’d like the sequel to tackle a Black Panther versus Namor storyline. But in any case, stay tuned for more updates.
