It’s a new month, which means there is new stuff to watch on Netflix. This is one of the simple joys of subscribing to a streaming service like Netflix. It’s like getting a new present every month and you don’t know what you’re going to get when you unwrap it.

Here are some of the best new movies for you to check out on Netflix in May 2020.

The Half Of It (Netflix)

This movie continues the trend of really touching, enjoyable and funny romantic comedies that Netflix seems to have mastered lately. The Half Of It is based on a classic play titled Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand.

Netflix

The play itself is from 1897, but the movie takes place in modern-day. It stars Leah Lewis, Enrique Murciano, Alexxis Lemire, with Alice Wu as the writer and director. It’s a touching story about a love triangle that manages to stay grounded.

Uncut Gems

If the sweet, simple feel of The Half Of It isn’t quite what you’re looking for, Uncut Gems should definitely do the trick. Let’s face it, Adam Sandler doesn’t always make great movies. However, you should never confuse the quality of many of his movies with his talent as an artist.

Make no mistake, Adam Sandler absolutely crushes it in this thriller about a jeweller. The Safdie Brothers have been making a name for themselves lately with movies like Good Time, and Uncut Gems continues that trend.

Back To The Future 1&2

You can never go wrong with a classic, and that’s exactly what Back To The Future 1&2 are. Back To The Future 3 has been on Netflix for a while, but now you get the full trilogy. This timeless story about Marty McFly and Doc Brown, under Robert Zemeckis’ expert direction, has maintained its charm for decades.

Sinister

Netflix

If the real horrors of today’s world aren’t enough for you, check out Sinister. Scott Derrickson had already made a name for himself with The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, and Sinister is another excellent horror movie. I won’t say much, but if you happen to find a box full of old super 8 films, just leave it alone and go to sleep.

The Lovebirds (Netflix)

Kumail Nanjiani is damn entertaining to watch on screen no matter what he’s doing. He’s most popular as Dinesh from Silicon Valley, but he also showed that he had some serious dramatic chops in The Big Sick. Now, he’s taking on a murder mystery… Kind of.

I mean it’s Kumail Nanjiani. You want the guy to make you laugh. It should be interesting to see how this movie blends the more serious tones of a murder mystery with a romantic comedy. Nanjiani and Issa Rae should be pretty fun to watch together.
