Last week we covered the fact that Avatar 2 was reportedly going to resume filming soon. And now, it turns out that the film is already shooting again! Despite the fact that major film productions are grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic; New Zealand has successfully managed to flatten the curve and, as such has permitted film productions to resume!

Producer Jon Landau recently took to Instagram to confirm the news that they were all heading to New Zealand soon. And it turns out as it is, the cast is all back in New Zealand and shooting has resumed in the studio.

Landau added that they feel very comfortable because of the actions of New Zealand’s government and also the responsibility the citizens there undertook to really curb the virus there. The producer also added that they feel that they are coming back to the safest place in the world possible; which is all thanks to a team of people that we’ve worked with. He further commended the Avatar team because he believes that they have come up with a very thoughtful, detailed, and diligent safety plan that will keep everybody as safe as possible in these unprecedented times.

The producer also added that there’s a silver lining to a very, very grey cloud which is that we live in a day and age where technology allows us to be productive, it allows us to be entertainment and not to mention that it also lets us socialize in these trying times!

James Cameron also chimed in. The director, who is a vocal advocate of environmental issues, had this to say when it came to making the film. “It’s putting a major crimp in our stride here,” the Avatar director said. He insisted that he wanted to get back to work on Avatar, which at the time of this comment they weren’t allowed to do under state emergency laws or rules.
Avatar 2 comes out in December 2021.
