The universe of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead is going to expand with a whole new prequel picture that focuses on a more straightforward heist plot rather than zombie creatures. When the Army of Thieves teaser debuted last month, many people were surprised by how few zombies appear in the film, but executive producer Snyder defended the shift in tone.
The Justice League director revealed in an interview with RadioTimes.com and other media that he doesn’t want his newest franchise attempt to feel constrained into doing just one thing. He explained, “I thought that was natural to the plot and natural to Matthias’s character, and frankly to our preconceived assumptions about it being more of a genre-busting franchise than necessarily a zombie movie straight out of the box.”
“I’m a huge fan of the genre, and one of my favorite things to do is deconstruct it.” “I felt like this type of heist romantic comedy was another fantastic trope-filled realm that we wanted to dive into.” The only returning Army of the Dead ensemble member is German actor Matthias Schweighöfer. The latter reprises his fan-favorite role as quirky safecracker Ludwig Dieter in the operation that made him a legend.
In an action-packed thriller that trades zombie-infested Las Vegas for less apocalyptic surroundings in central Europe, he’ll be accompanied by a supporting cast that includes Fast & Furious star Nathalie Emmanuel and Taskmaster competitor Guz Khan.

Is Army of Thieves the Next Installment in the Army of the Dead Series?
Army of Thieves is a prequel to Zack Snyder’s zombie blockbuster, set many years before the events of that film, in the early days of America’s struggle against the undead.
According to Snyder, the Army of Thieves will have “more safes and fewer zombies,” who promises “more safes and fewer zombies” in the sequel to Army of the Dead. Matthias Schweighöfer not only played the protagonist but also directed the picture, which was written by Snyder and his Army of the Dead co-writer Shay Hatten.

“I was ecstatic since it relates Ludwig Dieter’s tale before the Army of the Dead movie,” Schweighöfer told RadioTimes.com and other media. “So it’ll be a massive heist film with massive, massive, massive heist stuff you’ve never seen before.” He went on to say: “It’s a massive box office hit that’s also a lot of fun. That’s all I have to say about it. And it’ll be interesting to see how it ties into Zack’s zombie world, but we’re all extremely thrilled, and this is just the beginning of a huge universe.”
Apart from Schweighöfer, no additional Army of the Dead stars are likely to feature in Army of Thieves, but a surprise post-credits sting isn’t out of the question.
