Animal Crossing New Horizons : A List Of Resources To Decide What To Name Your Island

By

David Mudd

Animal Crossing New Horizons is out now. Players who have the game must be looking forward to building their island. Things like designing the terrain, making friends with the villagers and improving your village are a lot of fun. In the times of the coronavirus quarantines, that kind of entertainment is especially useful.

Player Indecisiveness

With this much variety packed into it, the game is sure to bring hours upon hours of entertaining, relaxing gameplay to all its players. So naturally, most players probably spend half that time trying to come up with a good name for their very own island. This goes hand-in-hand with the kind of indecisiveness that gamers often face when having to name their own character.

The Way New Horizons Handles Save Data

Animal Crossing New Horizons heaps a bit of pressure onto the player, too. The name and structure of a single island in New Horizons is locked to that particular Nintendo Switch console. Meaning, if you’re unhappy with how your island looks, or what you’ve named it, too bad.

You’ll have to stick with it or buy another Switch console entirely. Nintendo did say they are working on a tool to let players transfer their game saves, but that isn’t here yet. It’s coming sometime this year, but that’s too vague a time period.

Some Helpful Tools Animal Crossing

If you’re one of the poor souls who can’t make up their mind on what they want their island to look like, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Head to the Happy Island Designer to ensure that every element of your island is perfect, before even touching the game.

That same indecisiveness is sure to plague you when it comes to naming the island, too. Now, we have resources similar to the Happy Island Designer to come up with a catchy name. Samuel Fine, a web developer by trade, has built the Island Name Generator for your convenience.

According to the website, he “took a list of real-world island names, tossed in a bunch of species names from the game (villagers, bugs, fish), and asked a computer to chew them all up and spit out some brand new names.”

The website generates around 10, 000 unique names, which should be plenty to go around. If nothing else, it should at least give you some useful ideas.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is out now for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite.
