Well, this is certainly shocking! In an unprecedented move, it has come to light that Batwoman’s lead star, Ruby Rose will be exiting the series after only one season, prompting CW to recast the role in the Arrowverse show.
It remains to be seen if it is indeed Kate Kane’s role that will be recast or whether we’ll have a new Batwoman on the block. But in any case, it’s certainly a difficult task for CW. The television network has also gone on to hint that the new actress to take on the role will also be a member of the LGBTQ community.
So, Who Takes The Role Now AFter Rose?
Rose released a statement announcing her departure which was revealed by Variety, in which she stated that she has made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. She also added that this was not a decision she made lightly. And also that she has the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.
She thanked Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving her this incredible opportunity but for welcoming her into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz along with the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW also received a special mention. Rose praised them for putting their energy into the show and always believed in her.
She concluded by saying one last “Thank You” and said that she was grateful to everyone involved.
As is customary, Warner Bros. also released a statement saying that they were thankful for Rose’s work and that they wished her all the best. Their statement also added that they remained committed to a second season for the show and that a new lead will be chosen in the coming months.
