Fortnite players have gotten their hands on Season 2 of the game since February 20th, 2020. However, developer Epic Games has been quiet on what they plan to do on the competitive front. They have now finally broken their silence and provided fans with an update on their twitter page. They explained that the delay in kicking off competitive, cash-prize tournaments has to do with “addressing performance issues impacting both clients and servers”.

Season 2 Launched With Issues

Season 2 itself has seen quite a few issues of its own. Last year’s Fortnite World Cup Solo winner Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf even took to his twitter to express his irritation. Other pro-Fortnite players as such as Zayt have expressed similar concerns regarding the game’s technical issues.

Besides the technical issues, players have also expressed frustration at the balancing of certain in-game items. They have pointed their fingers at the C4 explosive in particular. Players find that the ease with which it allows opponents to breach their constructions to be a sore spot.

Pro-Players Applaud The Delay

Previous competitive tournaments, both online and over LAN, have had to deal with lag, as well as players disconnecting in the middle of a match, resulting in an unfair loss. These tournaments have cash prizes involved. Any eliminations that are caused as a result of technical errors are bound to be tough to digest.

Epic’s decision to delay these cash-prize competitions has understandably disappointed some. However, others see it as a commitment to improving the game. Fans are willing to accept this delay as they expect a better experience as a result. Numerous pro-players, such as e-w-o-k and mangraal have expressed their gratitude. Others have also gone on to praise Epic’s initiative in communicating with the fans.

Length Of Delay Unclear

As of right now, it is unclear how long this delay will last. In 2019, Epic Games had already announced details of the Fortnite World Cup by this time of the year. This tournament, with a cash prize of 100$ million, made Fortnite the biggest competitive e-sport in the world. The 2019 edition of this tournament was a resounding success. Epic Games themselves will be motivated to get the ball rolling on it as quickly as possible.
