How Much Of The Film Is Based On Real Life

Author Ehud Yonay published an article titled Top Guns in California Magazine, in May 1983. It was a profile of a Navy pilot training centre at Miramar, San Diego. The article went into vivid details while talking about the lives of pilots who flew the F-14 Tomcat and took the “Top Gun” course.

Talks with the pilots allowed the author to put together a story of their day-to-day lives at the school and the challenges they faced while flying the jets. According to Top Gun producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, the article inspired the movie.

Top Gun 2

Top Gun has been called an accurate portrayal of life as a U.S. Navy pilot, by aviators. It succeeds in capturing the intensity of what it is like to fly a jet and the lives of the pilots outside of the planes.

Top Gun is a fictional story. However, a lot of it comes from the real world. The place where all the training takes place in the movie does indeed exist, so does the “Top Gun” training program. The character of Kelly McGillis’ Charlie was based on a real person, Navy defence tactician Christine Fox.
