Hulu has decided not to bring back Castle Rock for a third season. After premiering in July 2018 and returning for a second season in October 2019, TVLine has learned that the anthology horror series has been canceled.
Castle Rock, Maine, the setting for many of Stephen King’s books, was the backdrop for fresh mysteries that incorporated characters and settings from King’s canon. For instance, André Holland played death row attorney Henry Deaver in the first season, and he moved back to Castle Rock after an unknown man (Bill Skarsgard) showed up in Shawshank State Prison.

Hulu’s decision to end Castle Rock after two seasons had nothing to do with ratings or viewership. Instead, it was predicated on the reality that the series was always meant to close with Annie Wilkes’s story.
The company’s focus has shifted significantly towards HBO Max, among other reasons. There’s no doubt that this is the case, but it could also be that there are so many other wonderful Stephen King books that could be adapted into TV movies, and that focusing on the program would shut off too many of those possibilities.

Season 2 of Castle Rock premiered on December 11, 2019, and Hulu confirmed late in 2020 that the show has been canceled permanently. There have been no promising signs of a possible relaunch on another platform.
