Written by Patrick Burleigh and Gluck, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is a live-action, computer-animated comedy movie that is all set to release in 2020. Directed by Will Gluck, the sequel to the previous Peter Rabbit is based on the stories of Peter Rabbit which has been created by Beatrix Potter.
The voice of the title character has been provided by James Corden along with Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki, Daisy Ridley and David Oyelowo. In May 2018 itself, it was announced that Sony Pictures had started the development of the sequel to 2018 film.
In February 2019, it was revealed David Oyelowo had joined the cast of the movie, with Rose Byrne and Domhnall Gleeson reprising their roles from the first movie. Elizabeth Debicki, Daisy Ridley and Margot Robbie were confirmed to reprise their respective roles in October 2019.
After their marriage, Bea and Thomas go on a trip for their honeymoon. Peter takes to the run when he sees this as an opportunity because he feels like everyone only sees him as rebellious. While on the run, Peter meets another rabbit who turns out to be an old friend of Peter’s father.
Domhnall Gleeson was an absolute champ in the previous film, almost turning himself into a cartoon character opposite the CG rabbits and their animal friends as they ranked, bullied and tormented him near to the breaking point.
It will be released on April 3, 2020, by Sony Pictures under the label of Columbia Pictures. Unlike the first film, Sony Pictures Animation will not be involved in this sequel’s production.
What you should know
The sequel is about the logical follow-up of the humans’ relationship established in the first film and doubles down on the sort of step-child narrative, centring on a Peter Rabbit, who acts out in different ways. Colour me curious. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, takes the action far outside the bounds of the old garden – so far away, in fact, that it features the bunnies in a skydiving sequence.
